Michael Young, O.D.

Born and raised in Norman, Dr. Young was introduced to optometry at very young age. His father, also an optometrist, owned a private practice for over 35 years in Norman. Little Dr. Young would often hang around his father’s office (his father would make him work math problems after school). Although he didn’t like the math problems, he loved mingling with the staff and patients and was completely enthralled by the daily operations of an optometry clinic. He witnessed first-hand the importance of providing quality eyecare with an old-fashioned vibe.

Dr. Young attended the University of Houston College of Optometry, where he was awarded a clinical letter of excellence in primary care. His clinical rotations included Northeastern Oklahoma College of Optometry in Tahlequah, OK, The Diagnostic Eye Center, in Houston, TX and the University Eye Institute in Houston, TX. While in Tahlequah, he worked with the Cherokee Nation providing comprehensive eye exams, ocular disease management, and specialty surgical care to the Indigenous communities. His rotation at the Diagnostic Eye Center focused primarily on pre- and postoperative exams for cataract, Lasik, and PRK patients as well as contact lens fittings and disease management. His in-house rotation was a combination of primary care, pediatrics, contact lens fittings, and ocular disease.

After graduating optometry school, Dr. Young completed a residency in primary care and ocular disease with the Tulsa and Muskogee VA Health Centers, the Cherokee Nation, and Northeastern Oklahoma College of Optometry. He had extensive training in managing glaucoma, macular degeneration, vasculopathic conditions, dry eye disease and cataracts. He also served as a clinical instructor at the Oklahoma College of Optometry. Additionally, Dr. Young is certified in anterior segment laser procedures.

Dr. Young stays quite active in his spare time. He wrestled through junior and high school and now trains Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. In addition to martial arts, Dr. Young enjoys rock climbing, skateboarding, surfing, and jamming on his musical instruments.
